Shaffy Schmidt joined Guavus at the end of 2018 as Business and Sales Operations Manager. She has over 20 years of work experience, the last 12 of which were spent in IT, working for EDS, HP, and HPE Software. Shaffy’s career includes a broadly-focused palette of roles, with senior positions in Planning and Strategy, Business and Market Intelligence, Customer Success, Sales Operations and Go-To Market teams. Shaffy has a BS in Industrial Engineering, an MBA, and a Master of Science in Management Information Systems.

Tell us a bit about your role here.

I’m the Business and Sales Operations Manager at Guavus; my main role is to make sure that processes in the company run as a well-oiled machine. For that reason, I constantly monitor and measure business performance in real time, then calibrate our processes to make it more efficient for problem-solving and decision making. I mostly work and collaborate with teams from Finance, Sales, and Operations; from time to time I work with other functions as well.

Is there anything unusual about your background that gives you a unique fit at Guavus?

Not sure if it’s “unique”- let’s call it a “good fit”. I have 20 years of experience in different industries, across many functions, and within many teams. I led and facilitated many different business end-to-end projects and designed processes from the ground up… So, I wore different hats when needed, which is a great advantage because I make use of these experiences a lot in Guavus right now, where I often work with cross-functional teams and participate in different projects. (It also helps that I enjoy it.)

What are you working on at the moment?

I’m currently working on enhancing the Sales Operations process with the stakeholders. The end goal is to achieve a leaner, easier to understand, and more efficient process aligned with the growth of the company. Enablement of the internal customers of the process is the next key area I’ll be focusing on in the next couple of weeks.

What are you most proud of?

A lot of things… I’ve joined the company in 2018 November, and in the first couple of months my focus has been to make the communication between different functions maintained efficiently. For this reason, I have defined the main trigger points in operations between Finance, Operations, and Sales functions. I have reflected these data points by creating a reporting model that makes the communication between the related functions easier during our regular meetings.

The other thing I’m proud of is that I wake up with enthusiasm every morning to start my Guavus work. Which is great, since most of our awake time is at work!

What's the culture like at Guavus?

Very diverse and international, which I love about Guavus. In addition, there’s less of a hierarchical attitude—people are very friendly. Colleagues are very helpful and open. It’s a very team-oriented atmosphere.

How do you spend your time outside of Guavus?

I love nature walks, reading, gardening, traveling, and thinking about Guavus 🙂

Fun fact:

I’m based in Frisco, Texas and thus I’m a remote employee of Guavus. One advantage of working remotely for me is that, in the middle of the day when I feel slow and sleepy, I sing—which surprisingly gives me a lot of energy and helps me perk up for the rest of the day 🙂
